An Abundance Of Media In Carpfishing
As soon as the first Korda State of the Art Underwater Carp Fishing video hit the shelves in 2003 it revolutionised carp fishing. This first part set the stage for the increase in carp fishing media that we see today. We’ve had carp magazines for a number of years, but videos aimed at anglers were a relatively new thing in 2003, yet seems so ‘normal’ in 2010.
But if you fast forward to today, we’re surrounded by carp fishing media. Look at many tackle manufacturers websites and they’ve got a ‘media’ section – YouTube Video links, Twitter and Facebook accounts to keep us updated. Then you’ve also got the free DVDs from the tackle firms. Ones that I have seen include:
* Carp, Tackle, Tactics and Tips – Volumes 1, 2 and 3 [Korda Developments]
* Nash Tackle & Tactics 2010 [Nash Tackle]
* Carp Fishing… The FOX Way [Fox International]

What I am interested to know is do you think these DVDs and online videos are good for Carp Fishing?
My opinion on this subject is that these DVDs are good for Carp Fishing, and fishing in general. The worst thing in my opinion is a poorly constructed rig and poor carp care which I think all of these videos place as a key point in them – ideal for the beginners.
An example as to why is when I was fishing in 2009 I witnessed a lovely 23lb Common caught from the swim next door. I wandered down to take a look and I was asked to weigh the fish for them as they did not have scales.
However, when I watched them take the hook out of the carp’s mouth I noticed they took out two rigs and leadcore leaders. I got the fish weighed and ensured the carp was put back in the water as I noticed the fish was getting very stressed out with the capture as it was a hot day.
Afterwards I gave the angler some advice. He did not wet down his sling which can damage the protective coating on the fish – they live in the water, after all. I also asked him to show me the rigs that were taken out of the carp’s mouth. The rigs looked almost identical. It turns out the rig that was in there when the fish was landed was one of his friends – he had snapped on a fish three days previously in the weed that was present. The reason the carp was left with a rig and leader was the way they were connecting the leaders to the mainline were with ‘quick links’ or ’snap clips’. The leaders were helicopter leaders requiring nothing to get in the way of the hooklink clearing off of the leader.
Now, this is something that I did not like to see as fish welfare is paramount in my book. They are our sport. Without them, what do we have? Lakes without carp.
This is why I feel the DVDs and other media are a good thing as those that take the effort to watch them have the ‘basic’ knowledge of how to fish safely. Although there is still margin for error; the margin is reduced. The instructions on packaging will become simpler in time.

how can you judge that their crap....... cause their doing it different to the norm...they aint catching...they using argos gear ??????? im sure whether your crap or gods gift to carping you would be offended by some know it all coming in to their swim giving it the" i am " "do it my way"
now if some one asks for help then they should get it .
now as for dvd, i do think as the isnt any interaction that wires can get cross, without being able to ask what some one means, learning is restricted. the same as books a little but you need a slight bit of intelligent to read one.
